2015 Maypole
Even though the weather forecast called for 80% chance of rain at 9:30 am on this First Day of May, 2015, the dark skies were patient, and we were able to have our Maypole Dances outside once again.

2013 Maypole and Spring Festival
With snow falling in Boulder in May 1st, the Maypole and Spring Festival were held in the gym. The first grade class served ice cream and organized gunny sack races and more.
First thing in the morning, the fifth grade class had one last band/orchestra practice before their final recital. They proceeded to carry out an amazing sword dance with Jan May calling out some of the movements. And when a few of the lower grades were short one or two dancers, a number of fifth graders jumped to their feet to fill in--seeming to easily remember the steps from years past.

2012 Maypole Dance and Spring Festival
Kindergarteners make flower crowns for the first time.
Jazz Mountain weaves a rainbow of ribbon.
First graders return to the dance with enough confidence to add in their own flare (perhaps one little finger pointed to the sky).
And the fifth graders pull at our hearts as they move in circles and create stars from swords.
